Pre-School Page

Pre-School is the place where a child begins skills development.  This classroom is concerned with potty training as
well as teaching self help skills such as wiping, washing hands efficiently,  putting on a jacket, and much more.
When combined with increasing hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills also open new doors to exploration, learning,
and creative expression. In fact, research shows that emphasis on only intellectual activities -- memorization of
letters and numbers, for instance -- is far less useful at this stage than those that encourage fine motor abilities and
hand-eye coordination. These skills -- rather than counting or reciting the alphabet -- lay the foundation for academic
learning in later years.

In order to learn to write or draw, children must have muscles established in their hands as well as good coordination.
Teachers try to balance learning necessary skills for Kindergarten with physical activities in order to give a well
rounded curriculum.

Children have many sports activities so that they can practice gross and fine motor skills.  Teachers play kick ball,
bowling and tumbling games with the children. Preschool children learn their letters, sounds and tracing skills
through fun activities.  Writing on a table full of shaving cream or sand prepares them for a pencil and paper later on.
They are learning to recognize and trace their name which is one of the building blocks to reading.  Story time and
creative play is also a great part of this classroom's daily activities.
