| Kindergarten children at Discoveryland learn how to read and write through well thought out lessons with an experienced teacher. Our private Kindergarten program allows children to have a formal education by using different learning approaches for each child. Children learn reading through Open Court, Letter People, and Hooked on Phonics. We use word walls and much more to get every child reading before they leave Kindergarten. Fun and different approaches keep children interested so that they enjoy learning. Children are eager to explore and investigate our hands-on Science and Math programs. Children learn measurements, addition, subtraction and basic science and math skills. Group lessons involving the entire class are an effective way to initially introduce new words, numbers, and types of math. However, the students need to practice on their own to form greater comprehension. Our small class size allows teachers to provide one-on-one lesson instruction. Homework - Your child will have a "take-home paper" to complete Monday through Thursday. Please help your child to remember to return this assignment. Our Kindergartners love to do these "take-home papers" and will look to you to tell them what a terrific job they did with their work. Learning the routine of the day can be very frustrating, and it is very important to explain directions and expectations. These first day steps are building blocks for everyday activity. To better understand what your child will experience we are pleased to share with you the procedures for our first day of Kindergarten. They are as follows: 1. Putting away school supplies, schoolbags, and school boxes in their appropriate places. 2. Finding seats and having an early morning activity for the children (Name Plate). 3. Discussing classroom rules. 4. Discussing friends and how to treat one another. 5. Reminding children how to walk in a line. 6. Discussing playground rules. 7. Discussing bathroom rules. 8. Talking about all the wonderful things they will do and learn! 9. Making each child feel that they can and will do their best! 10. Exploring the classroom. Your child is busy learning all day through a fun filled curriculum. |
