During Winter and times of inclement weather, we are sometimes forced to close the school for the day. Discoveryland recognizes however that while the school may be closed, parents may have to get work regardless of the emergency. The problem comes about as to what to do with your child. In response to this, we have created a service, which we believe no one else provides, that we think will help you. We have arranged with several of our teachers to be available to babysit on days when the school is closed. The names and addresses of these teachers can be obtained at the front desk. The service works as follows. Prior to the beginning of any emergency that might result in a school closing, parents will need to contact one of the teachers to ensure that they are available. Parents will then complete the emergency sign-up sheet. You will not need to use your child’s specific teacher. You can select a teacher who you may live in close proximity to your home. The teachers have agreed to accept a flat rate per hour of $5.00. Discoveryland will provide a stipend to the teachers separately for agreeing to be part of this service. Generally, the teachers will be available for this service from 6:30am to 6:30pm, the normal school hours, however special arrangements can be made with each teacher. This might occur if you are held up during a weather emergency from getting out of work or during a particularly long commute. If there are any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact administration or your child’s teacher. As far as we are aware, only Discoveryland offers this service and we hope you enjoy it as a privilege of being a Discoveryland parent. |
